Delmer Rints Recognized at Whitby Minor Hockey Volunteer Appreciation Night
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Whitby Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) held a Volunteer Appreciation Night in the BarDown Gastropub at Iroquois Park Sports Centre. At one point during the evening, the reception was paused for a special presentation by the WMHA to Delmer Rints for his 40 years of dedicated service as Tournament Director of the International Silver Stick Gloria Rints Memorial hockey tournament. Through Del’s leadership, this tournament has grown from 30 teams over two age groups to 120 teams across four age groups and it has become one of the most prestigious minor hockey events in North America.
Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy was on hand to recognize Del for his contributions to hockey within and beyond Whitby’s borders then closed her remarks with a surprise announcement that Whitby Town Council has approved a street to be named in Del’s honour (time and location to be determined). Members of the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors were also invited to attend this recognition ceremony, and Hall President Rocky Gualtieri reminded the audience that Del will be celebrated as part of the Hall’s Inductee Class of 2026 at our 28th Induction Gala on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Royal Ashburn Golf Club.
The Whitby Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 includes:
