Mike was born in Oshawa in 1942, attended public school in Brooklin and high school in Whitby. He played minor hockey and lacrosse in Whitby, Etobicoke and Brooklin and graduated to play Jr. “A” lacrosse in Whitby, Etobicoke and with the Minto Cup Champion Oshawa Green Gaels in 1963. Mike joined the Brooklin Redmen in 1964 and played with that team through the 1971 season.
In 1972, Mike became coach and manager of the team through 1976 when he became General Manager, a post he held until 1987. Mike spent the next eight years as President of the Redmen. In total, he was a member of the Redmen Executive for 25 years.
Gray also had a full hockey career, playing for the Whitby Hillcrest Jr. “C” Ontario Champions in 1960, as well as OHA Jr. Championship teams in Uxbridge and Port Perry. He played for the Whitby Mel-Rons Intermediate from 1967 until the team folded in the early 70’s and he served as President of the 1976-77 Sr. “A” Whitby Warrior Hockey Club.
