Prior to coming to the Whitby Dunlops, Gord Myles, an Oshawa boy, played for two years with the North Bay Trappers. He was signed by the Cleveland Barons of the American League and was assigned to Valleyfield of the Quebec League. Before that he played one season with the New Haven Nutmegs where he topped the league in scoring and was voted the most popular player.

Gord played his junior hockey in Oshawa, Stratford, and St. Catharines. In 1957 he led the Dunlops in regular season goals with 39.
