A native of Brooklin, Ontario and a graduate of Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute in Whitby, Tami Rayner has consistently achieved success in the sport of lacrosse both nationally and internationally, whether on the field, coaching on the sidelines, or in executive positions.

During her playing career, Tami represented Canada on five occasions at international field lacrosse championships. She was a member of the Canadian Women’s U19 team in 1995, followed by four consecutive selections to the Women’s National Field Lacrosse team (1997, 2001, 2005, 2009), serving as team co-captain for the two latter tournaments. Tami also won three consecutive national championships (1995 to 1997) as a player with Team Ontario.

But it was at the coaching and management levels where Tami would achieve even greater success and exhibit significant influence throughout her chosen sport.

Further to her extensive commitments as a coach, Tami has dedicated considerable time and effort to several executive roles and responsibilities. Throughout the latter years of her playing career (2003 to 2008), she was the female athlete representative for the Canadian Women’s Field Lacrosse Team, serving as the liaison for player awareness, communication, and safety. Since 2010, she has been an NCCP-Certified Competitive Coach Clinician for Lacrosse Canada.

Additionally, Tami held the role of Athletic Director for Lacrosse Canada from 2018 to 2022, in which she was accountable for overseeing policies, programs, and development relative to national team athletes. In 2022, Tami was appointed as General Manager of Women’s Field Lacrosse for Lacrosse Canada. In this position, she is responsible for the selection of coaching and support staffs, the establishment of team tryouts and training schedules, and player evaluation and selection. In 2023, Tami was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as Assistant Coach for Canada’s 2015 U19 Women’s Field Lacrosse World Championship team.

On the personal side, Tami is a wife, daughter, and proud mother of two children. She is very honoured to be an inductee to the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame alongside her father, Ron Jones (Team – Softball, Class of 2021). Tami holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and education and has her master’s degree in the Science of Educational Leadership. In her spare time, she plays master’s level lacrosse, and enjoys backyard lacrosse, skating, and golf with her family.
