Dan played in the Whitby minor hockey system and throughout his sports career was a solid performer in both hockey and lacrosse. His lacrosse career began with the Oshawa Green Gaels, winning the Minto Cup in 1965 and 1966. He was with the Brooklin Redmen from 1967 to 1969 winning two Mann Cups. Dan also played with the Coquitlam Adanacs in 1970 to complete a successful lacrosse career.

His hockey career included playing for the Whitby Dunlops of the Metro Jr. “B” league in 1963-64, Oshawa Generals in 1965-66 (going to the Memorial Cup in Edmonton) and 1966-67, the Syracuse Blazers of the Eastern Professional League in 1967-68, and the New Westminster Flyers, B.C. Intermediate Champs in 1969-70 and 1970-71.
