Larry Heffering

Larry was born in Toronto and moved to the local area in 1929 at the age of 4. From 1944 to 1946, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. In addition to playing with the 1945-46 Whitby Red Wing Junior C championship team, Larry’s involvement in hockey extended to refereeing in both the Ontario Hockey Association (at the Junior and Senior levels) and the Maritime Hockey Association (from 1946 to 1952).

As the operator of a BA service station in Whitby from 1953 to 1958, Larry sponsored local hockey and baseball teams. He was a charter member of the Whitby Curling Club, and a member of the Oshawa Golf Club and the Oshawa Curling Club.  Larry was also involved in the community-at-large, serving as the President of the Whitby Kinsmen Club and as a member of the Oshawa Kiwanis Club.
