Peter Vipond

Peter was born in Oshawa in 1949 and attended public school in Brooklin, then went to high school in Whitby. Peter played minor hockey and lacrosse in Brooklin.

As his hockey career advanced, Peter played Junior B hockey in Whitby and then Junior A with the Oshawa Generals from 1967 to 1969. He was then drafted 76th overall in the 1969 National Hockey League amateur draft by the Oakland Seals and went on to play for the Nelson Maple Leafs of the Western Hockey League from 1969-71. During this time, Peter was added as a roster import by the 1970 Allan Cup Champion Spokane Jets.

In 1971, he played for the Columbus Seals of the IHL and the following year joined the Salt Lake Ocean Eagles of the WHL. During the 1972-73 season, Peter was a call up for the NHL California Golden Seals and, in 1973-74, played with Tulsa Oilers of the CHL.

Peter’s lacrosse career advanced dramatically when he played for the 1967, 1968, and 1969 Minto Cup Champion Oshawa Green Gaels. Returning to Brooklin after his hockey career, Peter resumed his very successful lacrosse career, coaching the 1984 Minto Cup Champion Whitby Warriors and then coaching the senior Brooklin Redmen to Mann Cup Championships in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1999, and 2000.

He was the winningest coach in major lacrosse history with a stellar record of 322 wins, 149 losses and 6 ties for a .681 winning percentage.
